Innis Orientation 2020 Logo

The Principal's office is the hub of the College in administrative terms, even if it doesn't serve students directly.

The Principal provides guidance to all managers at the College and meets regularly with the CAO, the Registrar, the Dean of Students, the Librarian, the Advancement Officer, and the Communications Officer.  The Principal also meets regularly with student leaders, but any student can meet the Principal with an appointment.  The Principal's office typically hosts many events, including lectures and screenings, and dinners that bring alumni and students together.

Charlie Keil

I am the Principal of Innis, a position that tends to mystify most incoming students.  "What does a Principal actually do?", I am often asked.  In a nutshell, I am the academic head of the College, with oversight over all College operations.  (Some might say that I manage everything while effectively leaving the work to the experts.)  In a typical academic year — which this is not — I would meet students during orientation on the Principal's cruise and then have more involved discussions in the fall during the Principal's dinners at the residence.  To substitute for all of those in-person interactions, I hope to find different virtual ways to connect with students, starting this summer.

You might be interested to know that I am a vegetarian (leaning more and more to vegan these days), an avid cyclist, and that I grew up on a farm.  I hope to get to know more about the incoming Innis students in the months to come.

Over his past term, Principal Keil oversaw plans to dramatically expand the College building, providing new student study and socializing space, enhanced student services, and an enlarged cafe.  A top priority for the second term will be seeing that project through to completion.

Principal Keil is the eighth Principal of Innis College, and completes his first five-year term on June 30, 2020.  The Principal is dedicated to promoting the academic and co-curricular success of every Innis College student, and often undertakes initiatives to further that aim.
